Okay, so what is Long Island SEO. Well, it all starts here. These are my daily or weekly, depending on my schedule, musings regarding effective search engine optimization. On a daily basis, I find myself spending 50% of my time with the SEO of my sites. You’ll find that Everything Treo ranks very well in all 3. If you search for Treo Forums in Google, you’ll find that I rank #1. These fluctuate daily, so hopefully Google will not make a liar of me. For those of you who are new to the game, SEO stands for “search engine optimization“. See, without SEO, chances are good that no one will find your website – no matter how well designed and how good your information is to a potential customer or client. In the online world, there is no “build it and they will come”. Word to the wise, don’t have Kevin Costner build your website. It might look fabulous, but Google won’t be impressed.
On the subject of Google, be prepared to bow at the alter of Google. It is and will be the reigning champ of search engines for now and the foreseeable future. Those who deserve an honorable mention are MSN and Yahoo. Both are very relevant, but I’d be surprised if they account for more than 10-15% of your traffic. SEO is the key to a successful online marketing strategy. Keep in mind, that it goes beyond SEO. A mix of offline promotions, PPC (pay per click) and online search engine marketing will help your business succeed in the online world. I’m am in no way discounting design. In fact, design will play a key factor in how the bots (short for robots) see your site. If your lucky, these robots will report back to Google, MSN and the like that your site is the source or authority for a particular area. A well organized site, correctly optimized for search engines will make a world of difference. Does your site use CSS? Do you have the correct ALT tags? Not simply ALT tags, but keyword driven alt tags.
Since this is my first post, I’ve asked a number of questions and offered very little in the way of insight. Obviously, this was not the intent of Long Island SEO. As I continue with this blog, I hope to shed light on issues that plague websites and strategies to get your website to the top of search engines.
